Controlling water content is a critical process parameter affecting lithium battery performance. During the use of battery vacuum ovens, reducing water content in batteries and shortening drying times represent key areas for improvement in battery manufacturing processes. Below, we present practical examples illustrating how to utilize vacuum ovens effectively?
1. Place the battery cells to be dried in a sealed vacuum oven. Set the oven's constant temperature and perform multiple vacuum extraction and circulation cycles. This creates a circulating gas flow within the sealed oven to dry the battery cells. 2. The vacuum level of the oven must exceed 98%, with a temperature tolerance of ≥120°C. Set the delayed processing time to 5–30 minutes. Perform 5–50 cycles. Use dry air or nitrogen with humidity <2% as the circulating gas. 3. During multiple vacuum extraction and release cycles: - Initiate vacuum extraction. - Upon reaching the set vacuum level, perform the delayed processing. - Proceed with vacuum release. - When the vacuum level returns to the set value, execute the delayed processing. - Repeat this cycle. - Upon reaching the preset number of cycles, complete the vacuum drying process.
Case 1: Heat the vacuum oven to 60°C and maintain a constant temperature. Perform vacuum extraction. When the vacuum level falls below -96 kPa, initiate a 15-minute delay timer. Release the vacuum, then delay for 1 minute. Repeat the vacuum extraction and release cycle. This creates a circulating gas flow within the oven. After 20 cycles, enter the vacuum drying phase: extract vacuum and maintain for 240 minutes. Process drying time: 9 hours 20 minutes. Summary of 15 batches of moisture content test results: average moisture content 123.7 ppm.
Case 2: Unlike Case 1, nitrogen gas is introduced into the drying furnace. The constant temperature is 100°C. The delayed processing time is 10 minutes, cycled 22 times. After entering the vacuum drying stage, maintain for 200 minutes. Process drying time: 7 hours. Summarizing the water content test results from 15 batches, the average water content was 110.1 ppm.
Note: In battery drying production, operators only need to pre-set the vacuum delay time, vacuum release delay time, vacuum drying time, and cycle count on the human-machine interface. Then, clicking “Auto Run” simplifies the operation process and reduces the operator's workload.
